One of the most difficult conditions to treat, psoriasis frequently relapses based on the emotional trauma that happens in day to day life.

Mansi Kohli  | Published: November 10, 2017 5:02 pm

Psoriasis is an autoimmune inflammatory skin disease that makes the skin cells proliferate profusely, which can be as worse as 1000 times the normal rate of formation of skin cells. While the general notion is to use steroids and ointments in psoriasis treatment, homeopathy stands for treating the overactive immune system in order to address this skin complaint. Homeopathic medicines stick to the idea of following a curative approach and not just supressing it for the time being. Dr. Jaswant Patil, Mumbai-based Homeopathy expert says that every psoriasis patient needs to have patience as this inveterate disease can cause a lot of trouble and anxiety to the affected patient. Dr. Patil answers top 8 FAQs regarding homeopathic treatment for psoriasis.

  1. I am a 35-year-old married woman. I have been suffering from dry, itchy skin on my feet and hands since the past six months. My dermatologist diagnosed it as Psoriasis. He had prescribed some ointments and topical creams for the condition. The creams were initially very effective in treating the psoriasis, but the problem keeps recurring, and the creams are also not very effective now. Can homeopathy cure this disease? Please help me with a lasting solution.
Answer: Homoeopathy treats man in the disease and not the disease in the man. One of the most difficult conditions to treat, psoriasis frequently relapses based on the emotional trauma that happens in day to day life. Applying ointments may give temporary relief but will not give long-lasting permanent cure. Homoeopathy treats the disturbed mind that causes psoriasis and hence the treatment is more effective without using any external applications. Time duration of getting well varies from 3 months to 3 years. But in a few unfortunate cases, where the cure is not possible, it can be very well control and manage the condition.
  1. I am a 21-year-old girl suffering from mild scalp psoriasis since past 2 years. I have taken doctor’s prescription, and it is somewhat under control, but I’m afraid that it will recur once I stop the treatment. Please give me a good homeopathy remedy to cure it permanently.
Answer: Homoeopathy offers the affected with an all-round effective treatment for psoriasis. You need to give a detailed history with the mental makeup of mind and the disturbance that lead to psoriasis. When you open up with doctor giving details of your nature and disturbance of mind you get good results. Change in the attitude of life and thinking, along with daily practice of Pranayama and meditation with proper food habits and good sleep can prevent relapse. Some of the recommended medicines for psoriasis in homeopathy are as follows:
  • Arsenic Album – Effective Homeopathic medicine for psoriasis
  • Arsenic Iodatum – Wonderful homeopathic medicine for psoriasis with exfoliation of abundant scales
  • Sulphur – Excellent homeopathic medicine for psoriasis with marked itching
  • Petroleum – Homeopathic medicine for psoriasis set off during the winter
  • Graphites Naturalis –Homeopathic medicine for psoriasis of scalp
  • Antimonium Crudum – Best Homeopathic medicine for nail psoriasis
  1. I am a 45-year-old man, suffering from psoriasis on the arms. I wanted to know whether it is contagious and can it spread to other parts of my body? Also, will I have to live with it for the rest of my life or can it be cured completely?
Answer: Which body part or area gets affected in psoriasis depends on the type of disturbed mind and thoughts. But yes, this is the biggest myth of all that psoriasis is infectious. It is not at all communicable, so one should not worry.  In fact, psoriasis isn’t even an infectious disease and it does not occur due to infection of any sort. This is the main reason why it does not spread from one person to another. Psoriasis can be treated complete by homeopathy, you just need to change your mental makeup to have a positive outlook towards life and start taking life easily without tensions. But having said that, one needs to know that complete cure of the disease with homoeopathy is possible only if:
  1. The disease hasn’t already spread to various parts of his body and palliation isn’t sole option left with the doctor.
  2. Homoeopathy is a considerably slow-paced treatment, which works at working at the root cause of the treatment, hence the patient needs to follow up regularly and shouldn’t drop out of the treatment due to impatience.
  1. I have been afflicted with psoriasis since the past couple of months. I have heard that the symptoms, such as itching and reddening worsen in winter. Is it true? And do I have to follow a special skin care routine in the winter months? I am 25 years old, and single.
Answer: Yes, winter is a bad season for psoriasis. You should use soft soaps with oil base and you must stand in sunlight if you are not sensitive to sunlight. Even though there are many case-specific medicines in homeopathy, which can effectively treat winter flare-ups of psoriasis, ‘Petroleum’ is one medicines that requires a special mention here. This medicine is most effective in treating skin problems that tend to worsen in winters. Did you know is your homoeopath addressing your psoriasis correctly?
  1. I have a very bad case of psoriasis on my forehead, neck, palms and fingers. The inflamed areas itch very severely, and often start bleeding. I have consulted numerous dermatologists, but to no avail. Can you please advise me on homeopathic treatment for the same?
Answer: One of the best medicines for treating psoriasis with multiple colours and dry and itchy skin is arsenic iodatum. While undergoing homoeopathy treatment, one needs to undertake a proper background check of a patient’s medical condition, and needs to analyse every condition in detail in order to provide an effective medicine for psoriasis. You need to candidly talk to your homoeopathy doctor about your problems and emotional disturbances, which were the root cause of psoriasis to begin with.
  1. I am a 55-year-old lady, and am quite fit for my age. However, recently, I have been diagnosed with psoriasis of the skin on the neck, and lower back. Is there any particular diet that I must follow, and any foods I must avoid?
Answer: According to homeopathy, more than diet, disturbed mind and emotions affect psoriasis. Also, you must get food allergies and food intolerance blood test done to know what type of food harms you. Avoid spicy food and junk food and follow a good healthy intake of ingredients with proper food timings. Read more about 7 things a homeopath wants you to know about ‘curing’ psoriasis
  1. My 14-year-old daughter has a bad case of psoriasis all over her arms and legs. We tried many different treatments but nothing’s worked. She’s on a steroid cream, but that’s not helping either. Any suggestions?
Answer: Psoriasis is a very troublesome condition, all the more in children as they can’t bear the pain, magnitude and even at time sight of the problems.
Homoeopathy has the best answer to treat psoriasis effectively but the time factor in some cases requires consideration. Patience and perseverance along with adaptable environment in the family will make the child recover faster. Also, happiness, enjoyment and leading a stress free-life can make psoriasis less troublesome. Here are 6 home remedies for relief from psoriasis
  1. Hi Doctor.  I’m suffering from psoriasis of the scalp. Are there any over-the-counter shampoos that will help?
Answer: Most of the shampoos have sodium laurosulphate and can cause more problems. Cold pressed herbal shampoo preparations may be helpful. Homemade shampoos of shikakai and amla with neem leaves can be used if suitable.

Scientific evidence and Homeopathy

Homeopathy is more than 200 years old, used by tens of thousands of physicians and over 500 million people worldwide, making it one of the most popular forms of integrated medicine.[1] It is based on the concept of ‘treating like with like’ (in Latin similia similibus curentur).  Homeopathic treatment aims to stimulate and direct the body’s self-healing capacity by triggering a reaction. The body reacts to stimuli, which have physiological effects (drugs or toxins) by attempting to maintain homeostasis (a stable internal environment). Homeopathy makes therapeutic use of this effect.
Scientific scepticism about homeopathy arises from its use of highly dilute medicines.  There is a substantial body of research on this issue: a recent review of basic research on highly dilute homeopathic medicines found 98 replicated experiments, over 70% of replications were positive. Methods used to prepare homeopathic medicines are remarkably similar to some used in cutting-edge nanotechnology and there is growing evidence that nanoparticles play a crucial role in the action of homeopathic medicines.
The research literature includes preclinical and clinical evidence of the effectiveness of homeopathy including historical, observational, comparative effectiveness and randomized clinical trial evidence of good outcomes, greater safety, patient acceptance, accessibility and cost-savings.  Homeopathy is often used ‘to treat the patient, not the disease’ strengthening host defences and resilience rather than killing microbes or blocking pathophysiological processes. Here there is overlap with other areas of pharmacology and toxicology including the widely observed phenomenon of hormesis (the paradoxical, stimulatory or beneficial effects of low doses of toxins).[2] A hormetic dose response curve is non-linear: J shaped with a linear dose response relationship at high doses (the shaft) but a reversed dose response, i.e. beneficial or stimulatory (the hook) at low dose. Over 10,000 experiments demonstrating hormesis and important therapeutic implications have been identified.[3]
High quality surveys of use of homeopathy have been conducted in 11 countries. [4]  Two surveys in the UK estimated annual use at 3.1% and 9.8%.  In France 10.2% of the general population and 18% of children aged 0–4 years use homeopathy annually. 43.5% of French health professionals prescribe homeopathy, often co-prescribing it with conventional medication. Data from the US federal National Health Interview Survey analysed by a team at Harvard show that around 7 million Americans use homeopathy annually, with steady growth.  They particularly use it for upper respiratory and ear problems and consider it more effective than nutritional supplements.[5]  The demographics of users of homeopathy are consistent internationally: they tend to be female, well-educated and to pursue healthy lifestyles. [6]
The public health implications of homeopathyPolypharmacy (the use of multiple drugs), particularly in the elderly is a major challenge to medicine. This includes opiate analgesics (painkillers), psychotropic drugs (including tranquillisers, antidepressants and sleeping tablets) and antibiotics. The overuse of antibiotics has led to a massive global crisis of antimicrobial resistance: we are running out of effective antibiotics. There is strong research evidence that the integration of homeopathy into medical practice reduces the use of all these hazardous groups of drugs.
The largest comparative effectiveness study of homeopathy published to date is the EPI3 study. A nationwide study in France, coordinated by the Department of Pharmacoepidemiology at the University of Bordeaux, it included 6,379 patients at 804 medical practices. It compared treatment outcomes for patients attending conventional, homeopathic, and mixed practice family physicians in musculoskeletal conditions, upper respiratory tract infection, sleep disorders, anxiety, and depression in terms of clinical benefit, medical care and medication, adverse effects, and loss of therapeutic opportunity. Patients did not differ between groups except for the chronicity of their illness, which was greater in the homeopathic group. Patients treated by homeopathic physicians showed a similar clinical progression but took about half the amount of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) compared to conventionally-treated patients, with fewer NSAID-related adverse events and no loss of therapeutic opportunity. [7]
Another study in the EPI3 series yielded an analogous result, showing that patients who consult family physicians certified in homeopathy used significantly less antibiotics and antipyretic/anti-inflammatory drugs for upper respiratory tract infections than those who attended family physicians who prescribe only conventional medications, with similar outcomes. [8]  This finding is of considerable public health importance since antimicrobial resistance is now a major global problem. One of its main causes is overuse of antibiotics for upper respiratory tract infections. Similar results were found in anxiety, depression and sleep disorders.[9]
Comparative Effectiveness ResearchComparative effectiveness research examines the effectiveness of treatments in real-world situations, as opposed to the artificial conditions often imposed in randomized controlled trials, comparing outcomes in groups of patients (often known as cohorts) receiving different treatments. There are several such studies of homeopathy, comparing outcomes in various groups of patients attending conventional family physicians, and family physicians who integrate homeopathy in their practice, including those below:
A multinational comparative effectiveness study with 30 doctors, at six clinical sites in four countries, including the UK, treating patients with acute respiratory problems. Response at 14 days was 82.6% for homeopathy compared to 68% for conventional treatment. The rate of adverse events for conventional treatment was 22.3%, versus 7.8% for homeopathy.A replication of this study included 1,577 patients, of whom 857 received homeopathic and 720 conventional treatment: improvement was significantly faster with homeopathy.[10],[11]
Trichard et al compared ‘homeopathic strategy’ against ‘antibiotic strategy’ in routine medical practice in the management of recurrent acute rhino-pharyngitis in 499 children aged between 18 months and 4 years.[12], [13] Family physicians using homeopathy had significantly better results in terms of clinical effectiveness, complications, parents’ quality of life and time lost from work, for lower cost to social security.
A group at the Charité University Medical Centre in Berlin compared outcomes between homeopathic and conventional family physicians in chronic diagnoses commonly treated in general practice (adults – headache, low back pain, depression, insomnia, sinusitis; children – atopic asthma, dermatitis, rhinitis).[14],[15] 493 patients were treated by 101 homeopathic and 59 conventional family physicians. The patients treated by the two groups of physicians were generally similar. The conclusion was that patients who sought homeopathic treatment had better outcomes at similar cost.
Cost-effectivenessEconomic analysis of EPI3 data looked at three types of cost: consultation, prescription and total costs. Overall health expenditure was 20% less for patients consulting homeopathic family physicians in France compared to conventional family physicians. The lower cost of prescriptions for homeopathic GPs was partially offset by higher consultation costs. Homeopathic physicians prescribed far fewer potentially hazardous drugs including psychotropics, antibiotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.[16]
In all comparative effectiveness studies of homeopathy, its integration into health care resulted in better outcomes for patients with improved safety. Those that included cost-effectiveness analysis showed no additional cost or reduced costs.
Safety of homeopathyPhysician and consumer confidence in the safety of homeopathy is justified. There is no evidence that homeopathic medicines cause serious or long-lasting harm.  A systematic review of the safety of homeopathy, which included a comprehensive search of the English-language literature and enquiries with regulatory authorities, including the Federal Drug Administration in the USA concluded: “Homeopathic medicines may provoke adverse effects, but these are generally mild and transient; adverse effects of homeopathy are under-reported; there are cases of 'mistaken identity' where herbal medicines were described as homeopathic. The main risks associated with homeopathy are indirect, relating to the prescriber rather than the medicine.”[17]
Basic research: biological modelsThere is a substantial body of research in homeopathy using animal models, human cells, plants, and other organisms. The HomBRex database contained details of 2,289 basic research experiments in August 2017. It is maintained by the Carstens Foundation in Stuttgart Germany www.carstens-stiftung.de/hombrex and is accessible free of charge. Karl Carstens, who endowed it, was President of West Germany 1979 – 1984. Of these experiments 89% reported at least one positive result. Animals were the most often used model system (371), followed by plants (201), human material (92), bacteria and viruses (37), and fungi (32).[18] One of the hallmarks of high quality science is replication. A recent review of biochemical, immunological, botanical, cell biological and zoological experiments on homeopathic dilutions found 98 replicated experiments with over 70% of replications positive.[19]
Basic research: physical and chemical methodsHomeopathic medicines are made from plants, animals (or parts of animals) and and other substances serially diluted and vigorously agitated during the manufacturing process.  Twelve independent research laboratories in the U.S., France, Italy, Russia, and India have now found that homeopathic medicines studied contain various nanostructures, including source material, silica nanoparticles and gas nanobubbles heterogeneously dispersed in colloidal solution [20],[21], [22], [23].  This work suggests that homeopathic medicines, like modern engineered nanoparticles, act by modulating the allostatic stress response network (allostasis is the process of restoring a stable internal environment), including cytokines, oxidative stress and heat shock prote#ins [24],[25].
Clinical trials of homeopathyBy August 2017 1,138 clinical trials of homeopathy had been published. Details can be found on the CORE-HOM database also maintained by the Carstens Foundation and accessible without charge: http://archiv.carstens-stiftung.de/core-hom
Four systematic review/meta-analyses of homeopathy for all conditions have been published.[26],[27],[28]  Of these, three reached a positive conclusion: that there is evidence that homeopathy is clinically effective. The exception is the review by Shang et al.46  This meta-analysis was controversial, particularly because its conclusions were based on only eight clinical trials whose identity was concealed until several months after the publication, precluding informed examination of its results. The only undisputed conclusion of this paper is that clinical trials of homeopathy are of higher quality than matched trials of conventional medicine: of 110 clinical trials each of homeopathy and conventional medicine, 21 trials of homeopathy but only 9 trials of conventional medicine were of ‘higher quality’.[29] [30]
A leading Swedish medical researcher remarked: “To conclude that homeopathy lacks clinical effect, more than 90% of the available clinical trials had to be disregarded.  Alternatively, flawed statistical methods had to be applied.”[31] Higher quality equates to less risk of bias, Mathie et al analysed randomized clinical trials of individualized homeopathy, showing that the highest quality trials yielded positive results.[32]
Systematic reviews of randomized controlled trials of homeopathy in specific clinical situations have also yielded positive results, including: allergies and upper respiratory tract infections (2 systematic reviews),[33],[34] Arnica in knee surgery,[35] Childhood diarrhoea,[36] Post-operative ileus,[37] Rheumatic diseases,[38] Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever) (2 systematic reviews),[39] [40] and vertigo.[41]
ConclusionDetractors frequently claim that there is no scientific evidence for homeopathy. As this short paper has shown, this is not the case. Although, according to current scientific understanding, it is implausible that the very high dilutions used in homeopathy have effects which are not placebo, there is abundant evidence that they do. Homeopathy is geographically widespread and increasing in popularity.  Clinical research and syntheses of such research show it to be safe and effective for a range of conditions.  Integrating homeopathy in health care systems is associated with benefits including improved outcomes, less use of drugs including antibiotics, and economic benefits.

Homeopathy for Cystitis

By Em Colley

Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder. In most cases this inflammation is caused by a bacterial infection and is considered an infection of the urinary tract. Cystitis most often occurs in women, due to anatomical differences. However, in middle-aged men, a swollen prostrate is the typical cause of urine retention, which can then cause an infection.
Approximately 20-40% of women get cystitis during their lives. Underlying causes include nutritional deficiencies and immune susceptibility, as well as often the more obvious irritations from intercourse, tight clothing, hot spices, coffee, tea, alcohol or high sugar in the urine. Food allergies may be a significant factor, especially in children. Medication, particularly drugs used for chemotherapy, can cause inflammation of the bladder. Also, long-term use of a catheter may cause inflammation of the bladder.
Symptoms of cystitis can be uncomfortable and unpleasant. Symptoms include pain or burning (before, during or after urination), cloudy urine that can be smelly, a strong urge to urinate which is difficult to resist, frequently passing small amounts of urine, and a discomfort or pressure in the lower pelvic area.
Cystitis is conventionally treated with antibiotics. However, cystitis can be treated successfully with homeopathy, although in some cases antibiotic treatment may be necessary. If this happens, homeopathic remedies can be used as well, and the need for prolonged antibiotic treatment may be reduced or eliminated. Repeated and prolonged use of antibiotics suppresses the immune system and there is a high risk of developing a resistance to antibiotics which might become a problem if antibiotics are needed in emergencies and more serious conditions. We need to remember that our body has an innate ability to heal itself, thus the correct homeopathic remedy  can easily tackle the discomfort and pain .
*Note: There can be other causes for these symptoms. The patient with more than one episode of acute cystitis must consult their GP as to fully investigate the urinary tract as a whole. Provided that serious disease has been excluded by the appropriate medical tests, homeopathic medicine may be more beneficial than some orthodox medical treatments.
General advice: Drink plenty of water to flush out the infection. Avoid coffee, tea and alcohol as these acidify the body. As germs come from the anal area wipe from front to back with toilet paper. Don’t use soaps, shower gels & bath lotions contain chemicals. Empty bladder after intercourse. Avoid tight clothing and wear cotton pants. Taking regular probiotics such as Acidophilus helps to keep the gut replenished with healthy bacteria which reduces chances of infections.
Homeopathy for Cystitis
  • Apis: This remedy may be indicated when there are burning and stinging pains during urination. Last drops burn and smart. Retention of urine, especially in the night. Difficult, frequent or slow urination; must press to pass urine. Great restlessness and the person is very fidgety. Worse from heat in any form, so this remedy is to be considered if the person cannot bear a hot application on their tummy. No thirst.
  • Belladonna: Dull pressing pain in bladder  – the entire lower pelvic area feels hot. Shooting pain in bladder when moving. Spasmodic pains of ureter and bladder. Incontinence (continuous dripping of urine). Frequent and profuse urination. There is a great thirst for cold water and the person is very restless.
  • Cantharis: Cantharis is one of the main remedies for cystitis. There is a very frequent urge to urinate. Stinging/burning/cutting pains before, during and after urination. Severe burning pains in bladder. Heavy sensation in the bladder, feels sore on slightest motion. Small quantities of dark urine, with or without blood. Bladder pains, worse drinking even the smallest amount of water. Better from warm applications. Thirst unquenchable. Aggravation from drinking coffee – drinking the smallest quantity increases pain in bladder.
  • Causticum: This remedy is to be considered for retention of urine after labour and surgical ops. Paralysis of bladder from long retention of urine and consequent incontinence. Involuntary passing of urine when coughing, walking, blowing nose etc. Urine dribbles or passes slowly.
  • Equisetum: This remedy may be useful for urgent desire to urinate with prickling, biting and itching sensations. Frequent and profuse urination of clear/watery urine.  Feeling of fullness in bladder, not relieved by urination. Sharp, burning, cutting pain during urination.
  • Mercurius corrosivus: This remedy may be useful for severe and painful cystitis. Very painful spams of the bladder. Frequent urge to urinate. Intense burning in bladder and urethra. Stabbing pain up urethra into bladder. Burning pain with little or no urine. Urine is dark/bloody. Unquenchable thirst for cold drinks.
  • Sarsaparilla: Painful spasm of the bladder. Urination easier when standing. Unbearable pain at the end of urination. Urine is scanty and contains blood.
  • Staphisagria: ‘Honeymoon cystitis’, worse after sex. Irritable bladder. Burning pains in the urethra, especially between urination. Pain better from passing urine. Pressure upon bladder, feels as if bladder not empty. No thirst.
Herbs for Cystitis
Herbs for the urinary tract generally have diuretic effects, to flush out microorganisms and inflammation by-products. Many are also anti-microbial, either destroying microorganisms or stimulating the body to do so. Here are a few herbs that might be helpful to combat bladder infections:
  • Cranberry reduces bacteria and prevents them from adhering to the bladder walls. It can be taken as a preventative in people with recurring infections. Cranberry mildly acidifies the urine, eliminating alkaline bacteria (i.e. E. coli)
  • Goldenseal has anti-inflammatory anti-microbial properties, it destroys many types of bacteria. It is especially effective for chronic cystitis and has an healing effect on bladder linings, stops bleeding and heals ulceration.
  • Marshmallow is a soothing demulcent to the lining of the urinary tract. It decreases inflammation in the urinary tract.
  • Uva ursi has diuretic and astringent effects in acute and chronic urinary problems. It is a urinary ‘disinfectant’ as it has anti-septic properties, effective for many types of bacteria. Avoid acidic foods, and cranberry, which decrease its effectiveness.
  • Yarrow increases urination. It has anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties, while soothing bladder spasms. Yarrow tones the urinary tract and acts and acts as a mild pain reliever in infections.

Are you too sensitive? How Homeopathy can help

11/16/2017

By Eileen Scullion

Have you been told you are “too sensitive” and need to “toughen up” or “pull yourself together”?
Or maybe you have been criticised because you “take everything to heart”, you are “too emotional” or that you “think far too deeply”.
I often hear women and men tell me these upsetting comments are made by family, friends, work colleagues and partners and it can leave them feeling painfully crushed.
It can also be reports parents hear about their children from crèche or school and they desperately want to find a way to protect their little one, yet strengthen them at the same time so they can still flourish and enjoy being a child.
While there is absolutely nothing wrong with being sensitive and it is in fact a beautiful gift, for many people it can be hard to cope day to day with such intense emotions.
I am delighted to say I work with a lot of wonderful highly sensitive people in my practice and homeopathy has so much support to offer in so many ways.

Sensitivity of Body & MindOne of the most common things I see with sensitive people is that their sensitivity is not just on one level – it usually manifests itself in both the body and the mind.
In homeopathy the mind and body are not viewed as separate. For example someone with a lot of sensitivities to their environment, to allergens or to things they love, will often show a sensitive nature emotionally.
I see people who are hypersensitive to stimuli in their environment such as noise, lights, smells or changes in the weather. In the case of noise, this can lead to sleep problems as the slightest noise will wake them.   Light or smell sensitivity can result in headaches, nausea and vomiting too.
Others might be emotionally sensitive and be moved to tears easily, whether from hearing sad stories or news or from hurt feelings.
Compassion and EmpathyHighly sensitive people are very compassionate and have a deep sense of empathy for others.  Many women often say they feel things deeply and can feel the pain that someone else is experiencing. Some of my clients explain that they can sense when someone is unwell or feeling depressed and as they don’t have a natural filter between them, they take on the sickness or emotion.
Picking up on the energy and atmosphere when you walk into a room can also be overwhelming. This can leave the person feeling wide open and exposed to all that is going on and leaves them feeling depleted and drained afterwards and needing quiet time to recharge.
Client Marie: Feeling fragileMarie, aged 30 was an art teacher who came to see me because she was allergic to dust, mould, flowers, pollen and perfumes. Her nose ran constantly and she would go through at least 2 packets of tissues per day.  She loved flowers but could no longer stand to have them in the house because of the sneezing fits they brought on.  She was prone to catching colds, suffered from gland problems, earaches and sinus issues that were often brought on from cold damp weather or draughts and she couldn’t tolerate the wind so needed to keep hear neck and head well wrapped up.
She was very refined, delicate and shy and suffered from a lot of anxiety particularly when trying new things or appearing in public.  She was afraid of failing in any new tasks and was inclined to procrastinate instead.  She was also emotionally sensitive and would cry easily if she was criticised or reprimanded. She said “I always feel so emotionally fragile. I feel like I could break”.  She was very particular and overly conscientious in any tasks she undertook. In fact she could work herself into a state of exhaustion to get it just perfect. She was very creative and loved art and music.
After receiving a remedy selected specific to her needs Marie noticed a huge improvement in her confidence and new situations became less problematic for her. She was less affected by the opinion of others and found herself speaking out more at work.  She found it easier to make decisions and felt a new inner strength and courage like she had not known before.    As her immune system improved her sensitivity to catching colds and earaches with every draft was greatly reduced and her allergic tendencies and sinus problems diminished over time.  She felt she had a great boost in her energy and her stamina to withstand emotional and environmental influences was greatly improved.

Client Leslie: Feeling Unprotected and unsafeLeslie aged 27 was a mother of three children and came to see me because she just felt she couldn’t cope any more. She felt overwhelmed with her responsibilities and simple day to day tasks felt too much.  She felt unable to create a healthy distance between herself and people’s problems and emotions, world events and even going shopping was becoming a problem – the lights, noise, sounds and emotions from the shoppers, it all felt like it was crashing in around her. She said it seems to penetrate right through me, I feel naked, it’s like I have no skin. I feel so unprotected and unsafe.  I can’t live like this any longer. I am on antidepressants, but it’s still all too much, I feel so ill at ease in the world”. She also suffered from allergies
I prescribed a remedy that matched her symptoms and one month later she returned feeling upbeat and positive.  She said it “feels like I have a layer of protection between me and the world now and I can filter out what is mine and what belongs to others”. I can now actually go shopping and enjoy it.  Before I was drowning in other people’s feelings but now its like I have developed a new skin to protect me. (NewsTarget) Homeopathic medicine has a long history in treating and curing gout. Homeopathic remedies are useful to reduce the swelling and inflammation as well as aid in the healing of the joints. Gout is caused by the build-up of uric acid in the joints, particularly of the hands and feet. The swelling puts pressure on and causes enlargement of the area, which can lead to extreme pain. Many homeopathic remedies reduce the swelling and aid in the digestion of the proteins, which cause the uric acid build-up.

Avoiding the foods that contain these uric acid causing conditions is advised. Red meat, poultry and fish are the main sources. Exercise and drinking plenty of water also helps remove the uric acid from the blood. Chronic gout can lead to arthritis and degenerative joint disease or osteoarthritis.

Homeopathic Remedies for Gout

Aconite (Aconitum) is made from a plant that grows in the mountains of Europe. Though aconite is a poison in its herbal state, it has been found to be safe, even for infants, in homeopathic dilution. The name Aconite comes from the Greek word meaning "rocky" describing the plants native habitat. Symptoms come on suddenly, particularly after exposure to a cold wind. Gout pain that might be successfully treated with Aconite may also include symptoms of anxiousness or great anxiety. Aconite is especially useful in gout of the feet joints and is best used in the early onset of symptoms.

Nux vomica is made from the seeds of the Strychnos plant, which grows in Asia, particularly in India and China. Used as a botanical in traditional Chinese Medicine, Nux vomica is also a useful homeopathic remedy for gout. The gout patient who needs Nux vomica may be irritable and suffer from stomach distress and chronic indigestion.

Colchicum is a common homeopathic remedy used to treat gout. The gout that is best treated with Colchicum is when the joint is red and very sensitive to touch. These gout pains are worse with any motion and better when lying still.

Ledum is used in gout of the big toe. Ledum is a useful remedy to use after Colchicum, or if there has been an overuse of Colchicine, a drug commonly used to treat gout that is made of the Colchicum plant. Ledum is used to treat gout when the person feels chilled and the joint is also cold.

Homeopathic remedies are sold over-the-counter in many health food and specialty food stores. These remedies are labeled for their indications and are mostly available in the potencies of 6c or 30c.

Warts and Homeopathy

Warts appear in all shapes and sizes. Caused by the human papilloma virus (HPV), they are highly contagious and while they can appear in anyone of any age, they are more likely to bother children and teenagers.
Nearly all warts are harmless but once they pop up on conspicuous places such as the face or hands, most people will do almost anything to get rid of them.
Conventional treatments offer to freeze, burn, inject, shave, electrocute, poison, or dig the poor wart out but with varying degrees of success. Some can cause scarring while with others, the wart may regrow. For patient sufferers, just waiting may also bring success as 65% of warts disappear all by themselves with time.

For those who would like to hurry them along though, homoeopathy can help – and in more ways than one.
Thinking More Deeply about Warts
Warts are often seen as nothing more than a minor nuisance – to remove the wart is to remove the problem. But is this completely true? No, say homeopaths.
Their presence on top of the skin warns of a deeper weakness or susceptibility that allows them to continue and flourish. While removing the wart creates a blemish-free skin, it does nothing to correct this underlying weakness – the person is still vulnerable to future health problems.
A more holistic approach is needed and this is where homoeopathy excels. By treating the wart as just one of the person’s health problems and prescribing a homeopathic remedy accordingly, widespread improvements are achieved and the underlying weakness repaired.
Common Wart Remedies
When using homepathy for warts, good results are achieved when the remedy corresponds to the characteristics of the person as well as the shape and appearance of the wart. [1]
With that in mind, three remedies are prescribed more often than any other – Antimonium crudum (Ant-c.), Nitricum acidum (Nit-ac.) and Thuja occidentalis (Thuj.). Read on for the descriptions of these three and other common wart remedies.

Antimonium crudum (Ant-c.): Hard, smooth warts that often appear in groups. Irritability and a thickly coated white tongue also suggest the need for this remedy. The person may also overeat and have various digestive complaints.
Calcarea carbonica (Calc.): Round, hard, solitary warts. Often useful for endophytic warts that have a horny wall surrounding a central depression. Indicated in people with clammy hands and feet who prefer routine and the familiar rather than change and the unknown.
Causticum (Caust.): Old, large warts on the face (especially the nose), under the fingernails, or warts on fingertips that bleed easily suggest the need for this remedy. The warts also tend to be hard, inflamed, and painful and sit on whitish-yellow, dirty looking skin. People who benefit from this remedy tend fear that something awful will happen and feel intensely sympathetic about the hardship of others.
Cinnabaris (Cinnb.): A common remedy for molluscum contagiosum that has a reddish periphery and senile keratosis (thick, crusty and scaly skin growths of the aged). People needing this remedy may also be prone to sinusitis.
Dulcamara (Dulc.): Flat warts located on backs of hands and face and soft brownish to black seborrheic warts found on the back. Indicated in people with rheumatic complaints that are worse in cold, damp weather or humidity.
Ferrum picricum (Ferr-pic.): Small pointed warts appearing in large groups. Also useful in some cases of flat or plane warts with irregular borders that grow on the face, neck, wrists, hands and knees. Men may have prostatic enlargement.
Graphites (Graph.): Especially in periungual warts or corn-like warts on palms or soles of feet that may be tinged with yellow. Indicated in those who have trouble making a decision and who are prone to keloid scarring.
Natrum muriaticum (Nat-m): An important remedy for warts on the palms of the hand and soles of the feet. Indicated in those who are closed, reserved and sensitive.
Nitricum acidum (Nit-ac.): This remedy is indicated in treating large, fissured or gold-yellow warts that itch and sting or bleed upon washing.. This remedy is also indicated for people who are anxious about health and worry about cancer. Often useful for endophytic warts that have a horny wall surrounding a central depression or the more common plantar wart.
Ruta graveolens (Ruta): This is a leading remedy for plantar warts, especially on the palms of the hand. People needing Ruta are prone to injuries of tendons and periosteum of bone.
Thuja occidentalis (Thuj.): The most common remedy for various kinds of warts. If no other remedy is obviously indicated, consider Thuja. Particularly indicated in isolated, jagged warts that smell or bleed easily or mosaic warts on the sole of the foot. Commonly needed for anogenital warts or butcher’s warts. Indicated in those prone to numerous growths or tumors and who worry too much about what people think of them.
