An Indian pilot study looked at which remedies were the most effective for alcoholism – and Nux vomica came out on top.
The other secondary remedies listed, all prescribed according to the symptoms of the participants, corresponded to those frequently seen in homoeopathic clinics.
Throughout the study, 67.5 % of participants were classified as “cured” as a result of treatment.
Of the remedies used, Nux vomica was effective in 70% cases while Stramonium, Quracus spiritus, Syphilinum, Opium, Medorrhinum, Hepar suphuris, Mercurius solubilis, Sepia, Staphisagria, Arsenicum album, Carcinosin, Agaricus muscarius, and Tuberculinum were effective in 2% of individual cases each (total 26%).
6.5 % of cases were unhelped by the remedies chosen.
Note: While Nux vomica emerged as the lead remedy, it only helps when it matches the symptom complex of the personal struggling with alcohol, hence the reason other remedies were also used. Treatment from a qualified homoeopath allows the best remedy, best potency, and best frequency of dose to be prescribed for the individual.
